Cultural Activities--Pins

Remember merit badges? The Sons of Norway has pins to demonstrate ones acquired knowledge of a cultural skills. There are several different cultural skills and levels of pins available.

Cultural Skills

Cultural pins are available in the following categories:

  • Traditional Norwegian Cooking
  • Reading Norwegian & Norwegian-American Authors
  • Collecting Norwegian & North American Stamps
  • Norwegian Rosemaling
  • Genealogy--Family History
  • Hand Knitting
  • Norwegian Language & Culture
  • Hardanger Embroidery
  • Figure Carving
  • Weaving
  • Ornamental Woodcarving
  • Chip Carving
  • Folk Dancing
  • Music & Musicians of Norway

Pin Levels

  • Specialist: One who wishes to go in depth in one area, completing all three levels of one skill.
  • Generalist: One who samples several skills and qualifies for the basic level in each skills
  • Mentor: One who is skilled in activities offered in the Norwegian Cultural Skills Program can do a different challenge: mentor others who need formal or informal instruction. Levels are completed by number of individuals one helps achieve their skill levels
  • Master of Cultural Skills: One who has completed at least three levels of three different skills, or nine individual basic activities.
